Gres, Huma and Nautica of Expormim at the permanent exhibition of the Barcelona Design Museum

The Gres stool, the Huma chair and the Nautica swing chair, recognizable pieces of Expormim that have been designed by Miguel Milá, Mario Ruiz and MUT Design respectively, are incorporated into the permanent exhibition From the world to the museum. Product design, cultural heritage, of the Barcelona Design Museum. Expormim has expressed its gratitude for the recognition that the Barcelona Design Museum has made when selecting its products and for the validity of the craftsmanship techniques that it maintains. This is the only collection that allows us to examine the history of industrial design in Spain, “it is an honor to be part of this permanent exhibition because it facilitates the meeting between the public and the product design, through a collection of objects that exemplify the social changes that have occurred since 1930 to the present day”, says Alberto Ales, Product Manager at Expormim. Each of the exhibits is considered a representative sample of the design of its time, in terms of the material and the technical contributions proposed by its authors, as well …

Clerkenwell Design Week – A Visitors Review

Clerkenwell Design Week event held 21st-23rd May 2019 This year I ventured to the Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW19) event, a hub for creatives, architects and designers within Islington, London. Armed with a good pair of shoes and a map of the festival I was ready to experience the installations, talks and creative suppliers that bring an area into the spotlight on this already established London design hub. What makes this festival a successful event each year? Well its a case of its ‘in the blood and bricks’ of the Clerkenwell area itself. With a history of attracting skilled craftspeople and artisans dating back from the Industrial Revolution. The current Clerkenwell district is now home to over 100 world-renowned design brands and their showrooms, sitting beside 200 architectural practices. The event itself attracted 34,185* visitors from over 66 countries and these tend to be architects or designers looking for inspiration and sourcing opportunities. For me, it was a chance to look at the latest trends and products that would be featuring within future projects and designs …

Molo Collection by Rodolfo Dordoni

This is an example of a modular sofa in its purest form. Its orthogonal geometry is based on a rectangular modularity design, which means it can be easily adapted to suit any situation and optimise the space in which it sits. Each module can be taken apart and re-organised, creating new uses and configurations. The design is aesthetically minimalistic with intentionally oversized pieces. On the other hand, the decorative elements have conscientiously not been emphasised in order to give centre stage to the various combinations of fabric, colours and carefully selected details. “Molo, or pier in English, jetée in French and embarcadero in Spanish, is a structure built on the shores of an ocean, sea, lake or river which extends from the land over the water; a mooring place for boats, a rest between trips and a refuge from the swell of the waves. A return to terra firma and people. Molo by Kettal offers a place of relaxation and reconnection.” Manufactured in aluminium, teak, Concrete and Terrain Fabrics, the collection is composed of sofas, …

It’s in the DNA

DNA Teak, GANDIABLASCO’s Warmest collection DNA is the collection that best captures the essence of GANDIABLASCO, and this year the warmth and natural durability of teak has been added to the design. Created by José A. Gandía-Blasco Canales, DNA TEAK launched the new range at Milans Salone del Mobile show. DNA TEAK is constructed using teak timber slats, the perfect counterpoint of the aluminium profiles that characterise the entire collection. Inspired on a game of light and shade that references the archetypal Mediterranean window shutter, as well as the works of those oriental architects who use wooden slats and bamboo stalks. The quality and natural durability of the teak contrasts with the aluminium profile of all the furniture, the favourite material of GANDIABLASCO over the years. Its chestnut tones combine with the anodised aluminium colour and with all the other powder coated tones available within the collection. DNA now extends its potential for creating elegant and characterful exterior spaces for small terraces and large contract projects. http://www.gandiablasco.com

Timothy Oultons introduces Noble Souls range

Noble Souls is a new concept by British furniture and interiors company Timothy Oulton, featuring a unique sofa collection of truly disarming softness and epic comfort, supported by a select range of furniture and accents. Handcrafted using ancient, time- honoured techniques, it is the first sofa range ever made using only 100% natural vegetable dyes, feathers and natural linens. Noble Souls is based on a simple idea: that today’s real luxuries are those moments of blissful reconnection, when we feel ourselves truly alive, and when we deeply reconnect with one another. And today, those moments are just too rare. In a globalized, digitized, virtualized world, we risk becoming more disconnected than ever from real life. We live in our heads, on our phones, in our screens. Hardened, and adrift in cyberspace. Founder Tim Oulton asked – how can we create more of these moments? Blissful moments of reconnection, a return to our senses, our true life, our soul. With a passion for materials and craft, Tim unearthed answers on a journey that crisscrossed the globe, …
