Roca’s ‘jumpthegap’ design competition returns

The 8th edition of Roca’s jumpthegap International Design Contest is now open for registrations Jumpthegap is a biennial competition launched in 2004 by bathroom brand Roca in collaboration with the Barcelona Design Centre. The aim of the contest is for architects, designers and students to showcase their talent and submit new, innovative and sustainable concepts for the bathroom space of the future. Entrants are encouraged to use their vision and create conceptually futuristic and innovative bathroom solutions, whether it’s a new product, new space or even new uses and functions for the bathroom. This international design competition is open to students under 30 and professionals of architecture and design under 40 and offers prizes of up to €10,000. The registration period is now open and will run until Wednesday 27th March 2019 at http://www.jumpthegap.net. The submission deadline is 25 th April 2019 with the awards ceremony itself taking place on Thursday 10th October 2019 at the Disseny Hub Barcelona. Laufen congratulates 2018 AIA UK Student Charrette winner: University of Westminster

The prestigious AIA UK Student Charette returned for its eighth consecutive year and once again the one-day student design competition was hosted by the Roca London Gallery and supported by Swiss bathroom specialist Laufen. The UK Chapter of the AIA (The American Institute of Architects) revealed that the winner of this year’s challenge is the University of Westminster, for their highly commended project; ‘Squares of Light’. Opened in October 2011, the Roca London Gallery was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects. The space demonstrates a shared passion for innovation and is designed to create a unique and visual experience which proved to be the ideal setting to host the young creative talent in this year’s competition. The event took place on Saturday the 27th of October and was open to all architecture and interior design degree students across the country. Students representing many of the UK’s leading universities, worked collaboratively in teams of 6-8 to respond to the brief. SBID and BE OPEN announce Designed for Business competition category finalists

The Society for British & International Design (SBID) and its partner BE OPEN Think Tank announce the finalists for Designed for Business, its new national competition aimed at final year creative students and graduates across Interior Design, Interior Decoration, Product Design, Fashion and Art & Design. SBID created the competition in a bid to showcase emerging talent in each industry, to promote equal opportunities and to nurture relationships between students and the working world. SBID and BE OPEN were delighted with the enthusiastic response to the competition from both students and creative course leaders at leading universities. Members of the esteemed judging panel remarked that they were impressed by the quality, innovation, social conscience and focus on sustainability present throughout the entries. The awards presentation will take place at the House of Commons on Thursday 29th November, where category winners will be awarded with £1,000. The overall winner will be awarded with a substantial prize of £30,000 providing the winning student with the tools to pay off their student debt, establish a business or create …
